Mindfulness For Living Well – 8 Week Course

Mindfulness can be defined as awareness and acceptance of the present moment. All of our thoughts and experiences arise in the present moment. Each part of our day can be an opportunity to build stress or bring joy. Mindfulness gives us the ability to choose.

Recent studies have shown the seemingly endless positive ways mindfulness impacts our lives—less worry, better health, improved focus, and more fulfilling relationships, to name a few. And recent breakthroughs in neuroscience have proven that regular mindfulness practice actually changes the brain, making it possible to let go of old negative patterns. Even five minutes a day can make a difference.

What does the course involve?

The course covers training in mindfulness meditation practice and body movement and awareness training. We explore thinking, behaviour, feelings and emotions and investigate how we might understand this process to create a platform for change if needed. We explore how the direction of our attention can affect our mental health and well-being.

Over the course we develop the skill of paying attention enabling us to become more attentive to our experiences (good and bad, pleasant and unpleasant) from moment to moment – so that we can learn to respond more skilfully to situations rather than simply reacting automatically.

The course takes the form of eight weekly two-hour sessions, with a half-day Sunday session held on Sunday 29th October. A manual and Guided Meditation CD’s accompany the course, so that participants can practice at home daily, throughout the course. The home practice is an integral part of the training, so it is advised that if you feel you are unable to commit to a daily practice then this might not be the right time for you to attend the course. Each week you will be guided through a practice and investigate a theme. There will be an opportunity in each session to talk about the experiences of your home practice and any obstacles that inevitably arise.

Course dates: Wednesday’s 13th Sep, 20th Sep, 27th Sep, 4th October, 11th Oct, 18th Oct, Thursday 26th October (Thursday evening due to training on the Wednesday) Wednesday 1st November.

The course cost is £250

This includes 21 hours of teaching, reading material, and Guided Meditation practices.
